I averaged about a mile per hour; something someone with a little more experience and practice could easily overtake. Grassy fields, shaded woods, plenty of brooks. Beautiful and serene. I would have given it a five if I did not have to stop every 45 min to catch my breath (again, something that would not have to happen if properly trained). The lean to's and campsites were clean and comfortable (I stayed at the lovely Shaker site). Very quiet and clean; toads, salamanders, birds, and chipmunks were the only wildlife I was privileged to see. I ran into a pair of hikers coming from Maine good luck on the rest of your journey. Thanks to the AMC for keeping the trail well marked and clear of poison ivy.
