Store Tiers
Shit-tier: The stores that are a common beginner's trap, and should be avoided. Often have poor build quality, fit, and just look plain bad.
Mall-tier/Fast Fashion: Good for basics; t-shirts, underwear, socks, etc. Recommended for poorfags. Buy sparsely and do NOT build a large wardrobe with these stores.
Low-tier: Bit more pricey, but at this stage odds are you'll be dressed much better than people around you. Build quality is a cut above mall tier. Tumblr-core usually fits around here.
Medium-tier: Some entry level designer pieces, and at this point the clothes are very "nice". Quality menswear/streetwear often fits in this category. Fit and build quality are high.
High-tier: High fashion, designer pieces. Top tier menswear as well as some light gothninja pieces can be found here.
Artisanal-tier: Hand-made with skill that approaches that of an artist. This has nothing to do with design and everything to do with production methods. A boring design done fully by hand (example: a full bespoke two button suit) is 'artisianal'. Many designers source their clothing from artisans, but not all designer clothing is 'artisianal'.

Holt Renfrew | High | Unisex | Canada's definitive high end department store, selling brands not found in brick and mortar stores anywhere else. Selection is entirely based on location with places like Calgary and Winnipeg being quite scarce and stores like Toronto and particularly Montreal having rather solid offerings. SSENSE | High | Unisex | Massive online fashion store with a tiny retail space in Montreal. Call ahead if you're visiting the physical store and want to check out something from the site, very little is actually housed in the retail space but they're very cool about bringing stuff in. Style wise they run the gamut for designer goods, everything from APC to Rick Owens. Their end of season sales often discount most garments at 50 or 70% off. | http://ssense.com/ | Montreal |
Sydney's | High | Men | A curated selection from the eponymous owner ends up with a slew of brands like Jil Sander, M.A+, and United Stock Dry Goods all under one roof. Hard to place style wise but the focus is likely on anything that's very well made with somewhat of a slant toward darker aesthetics. | http://shopsydneys.com/ | Toronto |
Tate+Yoko | Uncategorized | A good place to buy buy high-end raws and various other clothes. | http://tateandyoko.com/ | Montreal
TNT | High | Unisex | Should somewhat be filed under womenswear as that's what 3 out of 4 locations are. Nice range of designer stuff such as Yohji, Comme, Margiela, etc. solid end of season sales | http://tntfashion.ca/ | Montreal, Toronto |

Thomas Bálint | Medium | Men | Local designer who also runs his own store. Dark and avant-garde aesthetic. Occasionally stocks womenswear pieces. | http://www.thomasbalint.com/ | Toronto |
Serpentine | High | Men | Toronto (and possibly Canada's?) definitive "gothninja" store. Not much else to say, everything is black, everything is expensive. You love it or hate it. | http://www.theserpentine.net/ | Toronto |
Stussy | Medium | Unisex | The original streetwear brand and still at it. Worth checking out for the store design alone, always very cool and forward. The Deluxe line is also really solid for higher end streetwear basics. | http://www.stussy.com/ | Toronto, Vancouver |
Fashionably Yours | Uncategorized | Unisex | Most likely Toronto's best consignment store, mostly womenswear but there's a couple solid and well curated racks of menswear too. Seen stuff like Robert Geller and Nom de Guerre for under $50 | http://www.fashionablyyours.com/ | Toronto |
Off The Cuff | Medium | Men | Worth checking out as it's Toronto's largest menswear consignment shop but the prices can often be somewhat inflated. A lot of solid vintage designer stuff and also newer offerings from mid to high price point brands. Not particularly avant-garde or edgy but that might not be what you're looking for anyway. | http://www.offthecuff.ca/ | Toronto |
Renaissance Man | Uncategorized | Men | Tiny (like closet sized) consignment shop off Yonge but quite well curated. Very conservative style wise, don't waste your time combing the racks for designer tags but do check it out if you need some more classic menswear pieces. | http://renaissancemantoronto.blogspot.ca/ | Toronto |
Luna + Hill | Uncategorized | Unisex | http://www.lunaandhill.com/ | Saskatoon
