we could just link to opinion pages for the respected brands. I don't see why it would be a problem to have them on different pages, seeing as you advocated for separate pages for lists of tripcode/namefield users who preferred the brands. The potential for internet rep-gathering is too great. - guy

  • "though finishing and attention to detail is somewhat lacking." on Rancourt's page: compared to what? Just looking for clarification on this point
  • as for the addition of price information on custom orders, thanks for adding that

Compared to say, Allen Edmonds. I have a pair of their loafers, and the edges of the sole leather were unfinished. The insole is glued on and stuffed with cardboard, and the stitching on the strap is ugly. Overall they're very well made, though.

  • Well the edit sounds very vague on the page, and gives the impression that they're sloppy with their shoemaking. It doesn't seem right to compare them to Allen Edmonds, though I'll admit the two are closely related. Their competitors right now seem to be the other USA moccasin stitch shoemakers like Oak Street Bootmakers, not so much Allen Edmonds; the look of a Rancourt shoe is rough-around-the-edges but tough and comfortable, and Allen Edmonds goes for the perfection look. So while I think that difference can be worked into the page, it seems wrong, to me, to put it down as just a flaw.
  • Figuring out how we're going to fit different opinions onto the same page is going to be part of figuring out how this wiki is going to work, and I think we can do it. Maybe for now we should have a "different opinions" section, where different editors (under the subheading of their account name) put down their perspective on the shoes.

i feel that may lead to over-reviewing to spam names on wikis - guy

  • unfortunately I don't see an alternative. being anonymous on the wiki will just be sort of non-transparent about who is posting what. and if we don't have a section like that for differing opinions, then we'll have to either battle to have our opinion dominate on the page itself, or be completely objective, which would be pointless.

We could just assume a neutral point of view and allow users to have reviews on their userpages/pages FOR reviews. Right now the reviews are way too integrated into the articles themselves - guy

  • what's the point of the articles without opinions though? if we don't have opinions in the articles, then why wouldn't people just read wikipedia? I don't see what would be accomplished by doing it that way
  • as for pages dedicated to reviews, if they're anchored to the page, maybe. if some pages get too large they may need a separate opinions page. but at the tiny length of all the pages we have right now, I don't think there is any urgent need for that.
